Five on Friday: 5 Snacks You Should Make for This Weekend’s Football Parties

My team’s flag is flying outside my house. My phone background is changed to a scene from one of my favorite games. My ringtone is the fight song. My team colors are pulled back to the front of the closet. In short, it’s the most wonderful time of year: college football season.

This fall, many of us will be sitting around to watch our beloved teams tackle another opponent in a quest for the big prize. But before the channel can even be switched over to the next know-it-all announcer, you’ve got to ready your collection of snacks and appropriate game-watching apps. Here, 5 (plus a bonus!) of my all-time favorite football party snacks you enjoy all season long.

caramelized-onion-ck-x

Caramelized Onion, Gruyère, and Bacon Spread – If a football party doesn’t have an ooey, gooey cheesy dip, it’s not my kind of football party.

easy-guacamole-ck-x

Easy Guacamole – It goes with everything, and it’s belongs on every coffee table, just beside a bottle of cool, refreshing light beer and a bowl of crispy tortilla chips or carrots.

grilled-stuffed-jalapenos-x

Grilled Stuffed Jalapeños – Fire up the grill for this one! The spicy hit of jalapeño welcomes the cooling creaminess from the cream cheese mixture. You could make these in mini bell peppers if jalapeños offer too much heat.

southwest-crispy-chicken-sliders-x

Southwest Crispy Chicken Sliders – Sliders are perfect for game days. You can hold them in one hand while you flip between channels to keep up with the latest action in the other. These chicken silders are unique and fun, though hamburger sliders are good, too.

cheesy-pigs-blanket-x

Cheesy Pigs in Blankets – These are a personal favorite at my house! Don’t use canned pizza dough. You want something fresh here. Ask for fresh dough at the bakery, or call your favorite local pizza joint and ask if they’ll sell you some. It’s totally worth it.

peanut-butter-chocolate-dipped-pretzels-x

BONUS: Peanut Butter and Chocolate Dipped Pretzels – You need a sweet, right? Something to ease the pain of defeat or make the jubilation of victory that much sweeter. These dipped pretzels are great because they don’t require extra utensils, and you can hang on to them while you’re biting your nails in the game’s last seconds.
