How to Chiffonade Basil

Don’t let the name fool you—a chiffonade is a very simple knife technique for slicing thin ribbons out of delicate leafy greens like basil and lettuce leaves.

Here are the three most important things to remember when making a chiffonade of basil: stack, roll and slice.

1. Stack up to eight basil leaves on top of each other.

2. Roll the leaves lengthwise.
